CHATTER AWAY: Overnight Open Thread

Deadline Hollywood reports:

“I was flying a kite and it got caught on a nanny,” says one of the little Banks children, offering as good an explanation as any for the arrival of the ultimate child-minder in this new trailer for Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns.

Directed by Rob Marshall and starring Emily Blunt in the title role, the musical, floating down just before this Christmas, is a sequel to 1964’s Julie Andrews classic, and judging by this trailer seems spot-on in terms of tone and style. There’s even a big, splashy and colorful animation-live action hybrid scene, complete with penguins.

People Magazine reports:

Disney released the first full-length trailer for the highly-anticipated Mary Poppins sequel on Monday, giving fans a real glimpse of Emily Blunt’s take on the flying nanny who rescues the Banks children.

The over two-minute clip also shows off Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Cockney accent for the first time, as well as other favorites like Meryl Streep and Colin Firth in their roles.

But the real star of the trailer is 92-year-old Dick Van Dyke, who makes his triumphant return to the story disguised as Mr. Dawes Sr. The iconic actor played Mr. Dawes Sr. in the first film using prosthetics to age himself, but he didn’t need any help this time around.
