“Let’s be honest with the American people. It was not an insurrection. And we cannot call it that and be truthful.
“The Cambridge English dictionary defines an insurrection as, and I quote, ‘an organized attempt by a group of people to defeat their government and take control of their country, usually by violence.’
“There was an undisciplined mob. And there were some who committed acts of vandalism. But let me be clear: There was no insurrection. And to call it an insurrection, in my opinion, is a bold-faced lie.
“You know, if you didn’t know the TV footage was a video from January 6, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit.” – GOP Rep. Andrew Clyde, during today’s US House hearing.
In March, Clyde declared that he purposely evaded House metal detectors in order to be fined and therefore have standing to sue Nancy Pelosi.
Clyde owns two gun shops in Georgia. On a related wingnut note, in 2013 he donated a 5000-square foot building to a fake abortion clinic outfit.
In December, he was among the 126 GOP House members who signed an amicus brief in the case seeking to overturn the election.
In February, he was among the 12 GOP House reps who voted against gold medals for Capitol police.
According to Congressman Andrew Clyde”If you didn’t know the footage was from January 6, you would actually think it was a normal tourist visit” Is this the new version of Republican tourism? #CapitolRiot https://t.co/lSD7K1P0Dv pic.twitter.com/AgzixpWGw7

Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia says there was no insurrection on January 6th, and likens the people entering the Capitol on TV footage to tourists. Says the only insurrection he’s ever witnessed was the Russia investigation.

Rep. Andrew Clyde’s (R-GA) comments today don’t hold up well when played side-by-side with insurrection footage, so I made this.
the revisionist history being perpetuated by some Republicans to defend January 6th is disgusting pic.twitter.com/bWdXtU0b4F
