The first openly gay Democratic presidential candidate, Pete Buttigieg, just welcomed Lil Nas X to the LGBTQ community after the “Old Town Road” rapper came out came out on World Pride Day Sunday.
“.@LilNasX has gone from viral sensation to groundbreaking musician,” Buttigieg, 37, tweeted on Tuesday. “As a fan, I’m thrilled and inspired to see him standing in his truth as a member of the LGBTQ community. Welcome to the family! #pride.”
The 20-year-old rapper on Sunday came out with the release of his new song, “c7osure,” and pointed his fans to artwork for his new album, which featured rainbow-colored buildings.
Old Town Road is currently in its 13th consecutive week at #1, making it the longest running chart-topper in hip-hop history. The longest run at the top for any single is 16 weeks.
