Bloomberg Shutters Election Data Firm Hawkfish

Hawkfish, the Democratic data firm backed by former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, is shutting down, according to people familiar with the plans. The news was announced at a staff meeting Friday afternoon.

Hawkfish was the main vehicle for Bloomberg’s failed presidential bid, which never took off despite the hundreds of millions of dollars spent. After he dropped out, Bloomberg invested $35 million into the company, an official said, as it pitched its work to Joe Biden’s campaign.

But the Biden campaign declined to use Hawkfish, in part because of fierce pushback from progressives and campaign advisers who did not want to outsource the work.
