DeSantis has increasingly lurched to the far-right since winning reelection. Earlier this week he announced that he will empanel a grand jury to investigate the supposedly deadly side effects of COVID vaccines.

Yesterday he vowed to sign a “heartbeat bill” that would effectively ban all abortions. Previously, DeSantis heralded the “amazing scientists” behind the COVID vaccines and dodged questions about stiffening anti-abortion laws.

Today’s question was posed by Florida’s Voice publisher Brendon Leslie, who has boasted about being part of the mob that stormed the US Capitol. Leslie claims he was only there as a journalist and has not been charged.

Florida Republicans will have super majorities in both legislative chambers when they convene in March 2023.
