The Washington Post reports:
Twitter suspended the accounts of more than half a dozen journalists from CNN, the New York Times, The Washington Post and other outlets Thursday evening, as company owner Elon Musk accused the reporters of posting “basically assassination coordinates” for him and his family.
Musk tweeted late Thursday that the suspensions would last a week, although several of the reporters had been informed by Twitter they were banned permanently. Later that night, he took a Twitter poll on when he should reinstate the accounts — but restarted it after a plurality of respondents said he should do so immediately.
Around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Musk joined a Twitter Spaces chat — essentially a public conference call — with several journalists, including some who had been banned, in which he reiterated his claim that they had “doxed” him. The journalists challenged him on this. Musk left the call abruptly about four minutes into it.
The Daily Beast reports:
European lawmakers have hit back at Elon Musk after Twitter suspended several journalists’ accounts after the arch-troll tech mogul accused them of putting him in danger.
“News about arbitrary suspension of journalists on Twitter is worrying,” European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova tweeted Friday.
“There are red lines. And sanctions, soon.” The German Foreign Ministry also expressed concerns about the platform. “#PressFreedom must not be switched on and off at will,” it tweeted.
News about arbitrary suspension of journalists on Twitter is worrying. EU’s Digital Services Act requires respect of media freedom and fundamental rights. This is reinforced under our #MediaFreedomAct. @elonmusk should be aware of that. There are red lines. And sanctions, soon.

Elon fled a Twitter space with most every tech reporter in the business when @katienotopoulos pressed him on this moments ago. https://t.co/C8FH3D6Fv7

The narrative is already set: it’s “the MSM” having a meltdown, not Musk pic.twitter.com/WivKaQxypK

Just so we’re clear this is a complete lie. None of them did anything like this. Also, lol “assassination coordinates” …. Good lord what a whiny little bitch. pic.twitter.com/5Mp8L5Q3UW

Holy Shit. Elon Musk just popped into a Twitter Spaces chat with a bunch of journalists. He was called out by journalist Drew Harrell, who he banned, for lying about posting links to his private information, then leaves almost immediately after being pressed. Here is the exchange pic.twitter.com/wVA9Gb5MVJ
