Congress Minutes reports:
Rep. Barry Loudermilk is sending letters to D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department and the National Archives as he ramps up his investigation into the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol and the previous Democratic-run select committee. In a letter to MPD Chief Robert Contee, Loudermilk asked for a list of officers on duty on Jan. 6 who were at the Capitol complex, including if they were in uniform or plain clothes.
The letter comes as an unproven theory that plain clothes law enforcement officers who were in the crowd encouraged rioters on Jan. 6 to break into the Capitol in a move to instigate the attack that has circulated on the right for years. Loudermilk, in a separate interview, suggested that some of the “tips” he has received as he’s conducting he’s Jan. 6 investigation relate to this theory.
