Trump May Attempt To Move DC Trial To West Virginia

The Washington Post reports:

Donald Trump’s attorney, John Lauro, has been making the rounds hoping to bolster the idea that the latest indictment against the former president is fundamentally a political charge, telling CBS on Wednesday that Trump’s team would seek a change of venue — potentially West Virginia, which he argued is “much more diverse” than D.C.

Trump’s efforts were coordinated from the White House and involved attempts to pressure Congress and the vice president, so the indictment was delivered by a grand jury in Washington.

In many ways, Washington is the more diverse geography. West Virginia’s population is overwhelmingly White and older than that of D.C. — characteristics that correlate with more Republican support. But importantly: 69 percent of voters in West Virginia supported Trump in the 2020 election, while 92 percent of D.C. voters chose Biden.
