Trump Can’t Call Trump Org Monitor As Fraud Witness

A New York judge on Monday rejected a request by Donald Trump’s attorneys to call a retired federal judge appointed to monitor and potentially, dissolve the former president’s business empire as a defense witness in his civil fraud trial.

In 2022, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron appointed ex-U.S. District Judge Barbara Jones to serve as a court-appointed monitor to watch over the Trump Organization as the case prepared for trial.

“Besides being untimely and inappropriate, Judge Jones and her staff are arms of the court,” Engoron said in a denial from the bench, adding that having her also testify would invite a conflict of interest.
