The Houston Chronicle reports:
Ever since the grid failed during Winter Storm Uri in 2021, leaving many across the state without power for days, Texans have felt on edge whenever ERCOT issues a grid condition notice and a freeze or extreme heat is on the way. But H-E-B remained open during 2021’s storm, acting as a balm for Texans stressed about finding their next meal in the event of a power outage.
So, while people shouldn’t buy more than they need, Texans are advised to take some steps to prepare for the coming week. Houston Mayor John Whitmire told residents to “try to limit your activities outdoors and your transportation.” Those headed to the store before then for necessities should make sure they’re stocked with water and food that doesn’t need to be cooked or refrigerated.
