Cultist Rep Defeats Cultist Rep In US House Race

Roll Call reports:

Rep. Barry Moore defeated fellow GOP Rep. Jerry Carl [photo] in the primary in Alabama’s 1st District Tuesday, bringing to a close a contentious member-vs.-member election. A Republican in his second term, Moore campaigned as a loyal supporter of Trump, touting his votes against supplemental funding for Ukraine and his support for a border wall.

Moore and Carl were put into the same district after the Supreme Court ordered the state to redraw its map to give Black voters a second district where they could influence the election of a representative. The newly-drawn 1st District is one of the nation’s most conservative, meaning the two Republicans were both running to the right.

Slate reports:

Now, there’s not a lot of meaningful difference between Barry and Jerry when it comes to the issues. Both were elected to Congress in 2020 and are in their second term. Both are Baptists who talk about faith values. So Barry and Jerry were fighting about the only thing that could boost their bona fides—who’s Trumpier.

In campaign ads, Jerry promises to “finish Trump’s wall,” “seal the border,” take on the “woke mob” and “gun grabbers,” bring back the “Trump economy,” and “make Washington more like Alabama.” Barry promises “Alabama values” and to “finish Trump’s wall.” Barry identifies himself as “the garbage man you sent to D.C. to take out the trash.”

Jerry Carl appeared here in December when he claimed to have paid $5.72 for two apples. Because Biden. The next day he declared that removing Trump from the ballot is “the new COVID.” Carl was first elected in 2020 and his first official act was his January 6, 2021 vote against certifying Biden’s win. He appeared on JMG in June 2021 when he signed a demand for Biden to take a cognitive test.

As for yesterday’s winner, Barry Moore, he first appeared here in 2020 when he issued a campaign ad that celebrated Kyle Rittenhouse as a hero. Moore was later was among the 17 GOP reps who voted against medals for actual heroes in the Capitol Police. He appeared here last year when he handed out ham sandwiches with “Indict THIS” written on the bags after Trump was indicted in the hush money case.
