Axios reports:
The father of a U.S. Marine killed in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing was arrested for disrupting President Biden’s State of the Union address on Thursday. The disruption by Steve Nikoui as an invited guest of a member of Congress was an extremely rare break in decorum that punctuated a night filled with heckling from lawmakers.
Nikoui is the father of Lance Cpl Kareem Nikoui and was a guest of Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.). He yelled “Abbey Gate” and “United States Marines,” a reference to the bombing in Afghanistan’s capital, after Biden said “America is safer today than when I took office.”
“Tonight at approximately 10:15 p.m., a man disrupted the State of the Union Address by yelling,” a Capitol Police spokesperson told Axios. “Our officers warned him to stop and when he did not, the man was removed from the House Galleries and was arrested.”
The New York Times reports:
In the statement, officers said: “This is a routine charge on Capitol Hill. People who illegally demonstrate/disrupt Congress typically are released after they pay a $50 fine, so the misdemeanor charge is resolved without going to court.”
Mr. Nikoui has been a vocal critic of Mr. Biden since the death of his son. In August 2021, he told The Daily Beast that he blamed the president for the tragedy. “They sent my son over there as a paper pusher and then had the Taliban outside providing security,” Mr. Nikoui said at the time.
Rep. Mast recently earned international furor when he declared that babies killed in Gaza are not “innocent civilians.”

The Sergeant at Arms is holding my State of the Union guest for yelling at @POTUS in protest because his son was killed in action at the Abbey Gate due to Biden’s incompetence.
So much for the right to petition our government for the redress of grievances.
