GOP Bill Would Rename DC’s Dulles Airport For Trump

Mediaite reports:

In the race among Republicans to suck up to former President Donald Trump, seven GOP members of Congress are bidding to take the lead.

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) has introduced a bill — along with six co-sponsors — to rename Washington’s Dulles Airport the “Donald J. Trump International Airport.” Reps. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Barry Moore (R-AL), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Andy Ogles (R-TN) and Michael Waltz (R-FL) have all signed on.

The bill has no shot to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate, but a House vote could potentially force some swing-district GOP members into an awkward show of loyalty to the former president.

Dulles is named for late Republican Sen. John Foster Dulles, who served as Secretary of State under Eisenhower during the height of the Cold War. Washington National Airport was renamed Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in 1998 on Reagan’s 87th birthday.

Reschenthaler was among the 126 House Republicans who voted against certifying Biden’s win in 2020. He also signed onto a Supreme Court brief seeking to overturn the result of the 2020 election in Pennsylvania, his home state.
