The Daily Beast reports:
With fuming readers unsubscribing in droves, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong is offering a different explanation for his newspaper’s decision to skip making a presidential endorsement this year after his former editorials editor pinned the blame on him. Mariel Garza, who resigned in the wake of the surprise Tuesday announcement, gave an interview to the Columbia Journalism Review in which she said Soon-Shiong had on Oct. 11 informed the Los Angeles Times’ editorial board that it would not be endorsing.
Patrick Soon-Shiong writes on X:
So many comments about the @latimes Editorial Board not providing a Presidential endorsement this year. Let me clarify how this decision came about.
The Editorial Board was provided the opportunity to draft a factual analysis of all the POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE policies by EACH candidate during their tenures at the White House, and how these policies affected the nation.
In addition, the Board was asked to provide their understanding of the policies and plans enunciated by the candidates during this campaign and its potential effect on the nation in the next four years.
In this way, with this clear and non-partisan information side-by-side, our readers could decide who would be worthy of being President for the next four years.
Instead of adopting this path as suggested, the Editorial Board chose to remain silent and I accepted their decision. Please #vote
The replies to his tweet are scathing, except of course the ones from his longtime pal Elon Musk and Log Cabin homocon Rob Smith.

Makes sense

You’re a useless and spineless whore. Sell the paper, leave the country.

Yeah I’m not reading all that. Just canceled my subscription and I’m encouraging my 800K followers to do the same.

I’m a lifetime print subscriber and my parents before me. I could not believe you overruled the editors. Your tweet confirms that you did. A sad day for journalism. Maybe you should rename the paper X.

Hi @DrPatSoonShiong: I’m a @guardian reporter based in Los Angeles, and I’m writing about your decision not to allow the @latimes editorial board to endorse a presidential candidate this year. Can you clarify if this decision is related at all to your relationship with Elon Musk?

I’ve been an LA Times subscriber for as long as I could read. I’ve stayed loyal even when you’ve laid off personal friends because I want my hometown to have a newspaper. That ends today. The harm you’ve done not allowing your own journalists to do their jobs is irreparable. pic.twitter.com/kA9DrClPzZ

Yeah, instead of pimping a fascist like you wanted them to, they remained silent and resigned from your bullshit.
That’s called integrity. It’s a word that used to be integral to the news business.

This is baloney and no one is buying it. The editorial board wanted to make the only reasonable recommendation and YOU stopped it. People like you will gladly sacrifice democracy for a few more tax cuts. I won’t say how I really feel about you, but it’s not flattering. pic.twitter.com/jNNq0ep7K3

Lots of tears because a Liberal rag didn’t endorse the Democrat.
