Via email from hate group leader Monica Cole:
One Million Moms has received many complaints regarding the ongoing, crude Frank’s RedHot “Frank it Up” ad campaign, which features the “I put that $#!t on everything” slogan.
Foul language (or implication of it) is unnecessary in this or any advertisement, but that is apparently what Frank’s RedHot intended. This inappropriate slogan is even found on the back label of each bottle.
Of course, the ad campaign praises the flavor and heat of its hot sauce, but the commercials don’t stop there since each advertisement quite obviously insinuates profanity as well.
For example, actors and actresses in the ad declare, “Frank it Up!” multiple times, and then the voiceover states, “I put that bleep everything.”
At this point, the viewer knows what is said, even though the bleep covers the s-word.
Frank’s RedHot chose to include this profane insinuation and to end the ad with viewers completely understanding the intended implication.
This type of advertising is entirely unnecessary. Frank’s RedHot has deliberately chosen to produce controversial advertisements instead of wholesome ones. One Million Moms finds this highly inappropriate.
Apparently, Frank’s RedHot executives do not care about what children hear – despite how damaging and destructive such ads are to our children.
Everyone knows kids repeat what they hear. This ad demonstrates weak marketing, and Frank’s RedHot should have the corporate responsibility not to use an age-old euphemism that offends families.
Let them know that, as a parent and a consumer, you are disgusted by their recent irresponsible marketing choices. Frank’s RedHot needs to know that parents disapprove!
From the petition:
I am highly offended by your recurring marketing campaign. It is irresponsible to use insinuated profanity in advertisements. Everyone knows children repeat what they hear. I urge Frank’s RedHot to cancel these commercials immediately. Until you clean up your ads, I cannot purchase your products in good conscience.
By my count, this is Monica’s 13th meltdown so far this year over implied profanity in a commercial. She’s franking nuts. The “frank it up” clip below is at least two years old, but the company is recently out with a new ad starring uber-bear Jason Kelce. And there’s a blooper reel.
