Trump’s MSG Rally: Racist, Vulgar, Antisemitic, Cruel

The New York Times reports:

Donald J. Trump’s closing rally at Madison Square Garden on the second to last Sunday before the election was a release of rage at a political and legal system that impeached, indicted and convicted him, a vivid and at times racist display of the dark energy animating the MAGA movement.

A comic kicked off the rally by dismissing Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” then mocked Hispanics as failing to use birth control, Jews as cheap and Palestinians as rock-throwers, and called out a Black man in the audience with a reference to watermelon.

Another speaker likened Vice President Kamala Harris to a prostitute with “pimp handlers.” A third called her “the Antichrist.” And the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson mocked Ms. Harris — the daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father — with a made-up ethnicity, saying she was vying to become “the first Samoan-Malaysian, low IQ former California prosecutor ever to be elected president.”

CNN reports:

The rally began with Tony Hinchcliffe, a comedian and podcast host, assailing Puerto Rico – in the city that’s home to the largest Puerto Rican population on the US mainland. About 500,000 Puerto Ricans also live in battleground Pennsylvania, where Harris campaigned on Sunday. “There’s a lot going on, like, I don’t know if you know this but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now,” he said. “I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”

The line was well-received by Trump supporters who filled the historic arena in Midtown Manhattan. Trump has recently taken to calling the US “a garbage can for the world” when he rails against undocumented immigrants. “These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that they do,” Hinchcliffe continued. “There’s no pulling out. They don’t do that. They come inside. Just like they did to our country.”

The Washington Post reports:

Trump hit his standard talking points and lobbed his own familiar insults — calling the media “the enemy of the people,” branding Harris a “low-IQ individual” and defending his decision to label political opponents “the enemy within.”

He called the United States an “occupied country,” said Election Day will be “liberation day” and repeated false claims about the federal government’s hurricane response in North Carolina.

“They haven’t even responded in North Carolina,” Trump said, reiterating his inaccurate claim that the Federal Emergency Management Agency lacks money to respond because it spent the resources on undocumented immigrants.

Politico reports:

Madison Square Garden, called “the World’s Most Famous Arena,” can hold 19,500 people. The Trump campaign said the event was sold out and every section of the arena was full. Thousands of Trump supporters lined up overnight on the streets of New York to get a glimpse of the former president.

The Trump campaign turned the event into a fundraiser, and top donors were given backstage access or were given special skybox seating. The top tier “Ultra MAGA experience” was priced at $924,600 — the maximum an individual can donate to the former president’s joint fundraising committee by law — according to an invitation from the campaign.

And the president’s New Jersey golf club offered charter bus transportation and “private luxury suites” at the rally, according to an invitation that was sent to club members.

Is anyone the slightest bit surprised?
