Law & Crime reports:
Add Proud Boys member and Florida man Joseph Biggs — convicted of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to one of the longest prison terms for his role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, to the growing list of felons seeking a pardon from President-elect Donald Trump.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, last year sentenced the 40-year-old Biggs to 17 years behind bars after a jury convicted him of seditious conspiracy, among other charges, in May 2023. Now his camp is hoping the prison sentence will soon end with Trump headed back to the White House.
Biggs’ attorney Norm Pattis, known for representing Alex Jones and Infowars employees, said that he is writing Trump a letter urging him to give his client a pardon. Pattis said releasing Biggs from prison is in the public’s interest.
Orlando’s Fox affiliate reports:
“There’s been a suggestion that his transition team is beginning to create an infrastructure to evaluate these claims,” said Biggs. “We intend to put them to the test this week.” The Counter-terrorism Section of the National Security Division says Biggs opposed the lawful transfer of power by force, tearing down a fence separating the rioters from law enforcement, and then breaking his way into the Capitol building.
Inside, he recorded himself saying that he’d gone through every barricade, and that he was taking the Capitol back. Before the riot, he’d posted on social media saying it was time for war, and helped coordinate the rioters’ plan in D.C. “The notion that Mr. Biggs is some sort of domestic terrorism that should sit behind bars for 17 years is a chilling message to everyone. And that is you ought not to write patriotic hyperbole and then attend a protest,” said Pattis.
Biggs appeared here many times before the Capitol riot for leading other often violent clashes.
