The Buenos Aires Herald reports:
United States President-elect Donald Trump announced that Peter Lamelas, a Cuban-born physician and businessman, will be the next U.S. ambassador to Argentina. “I am pleased to announce that Dr. Peter Lamelas, MD, MBA, will serve as our United States Ambassador to Argentina,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social account.
Trump described Lamelas as “a physician, philanthropist, and an incredible businessman,” who founded MD Now Urgent Care, “the largest Urgent Care healthcare company in Florida.” He also mentioned that Lamelas fled Cuba with his family when he was a child and highlighted that they immigrated “legally” to the U.S., “starting with nothing, and achieving the American Dream.”
Lamelas already met Argentine President Javier Milei at Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago in November. In an X post days after the event, he shared pictures with Milei and described him as “a leader on a mission to free his country from decades of socialism and mismanagement.”
Politico reports:
In a series of late-night Truth Social posts, Trump said he would tap former Conair executive Leandro Rizzuto Jr. as ambassador to the Organization of American States. He also said he would appoint philanthropist and urgent care network executive Peter Lamelas as ambassador to Argentina and personal injury lawyer and former law enforcement officer Dan Newlin to the role of ambassador to Colombia.
Lamelas and Newlin will be thrust immediately into complicated diplomatic discussions without that kind of background. Lamelas, Rizzuto and Newlin are longtime donors to Trump. Rizzuto donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Trump and boosted conspiracy theories about Trump’s 2016 primary opponents. Newlin spent considerable sums in 2024 on ads and billboards supporting Trump.
MD Now Urgent Care has 110 locations across Florida. In 2021, Lamelas hosted a Hawaii luau party at Mar-A-Lago attended by Trump and prominent cultists.
Mr. President, thank you for this incredible honor. The world sees it clearly: America is back because Donald J. Trump is back.
Under your leadership, the U.S.-Argentina relationship will achieve greatness like never before. MAGA https://t.co/7p5JztwB8f

At Mar-a-Lago last week, I spoke with Javier Milei. He’s a leader on a mission to free his country from decades of socialism and mismanagement. Like President Trump, Milei understands that prosperity starts with smaller, efficient government. That’s why Trump created the… pic.twitter.com/JCt7nkFAje
