Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced early Friday local time that Israel has finalized its ceasefire agreement with the militant group Hamas that will see the release of hostages held in Gaza.
Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that the prime minister “has been updated by the negotiating team that agreements have been reached on a deal for the release of the hostages.” Netanyahu’s security cabinet was meeting Friday to consider the deal. The exact details of the updated negotiations were not immediately provided.
This comes after the two sides previously announced Wednesday that they had reached a ceasefire agreement, news which brought jubilation to thousands of people across the decimated Palestinian territory and in Israel.
