ABC News reports:
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito spoke to Trump by phone Tuesday to recommend one of his former law clerks for a job in the new administration. “William Levi, one of my former law clerks, asked me to take a call from President-elect Trump regarding his qualifications to serve in a government position,” Alito said in a statement issued Wednesday. “I agreed to discuss this matter with President-elect Trump, and he called me yesterday afternoon.”
The call occurred just hours before Trump’s lawyers on Wednesday morning filed an emergency request with the justices asking them to block a New York judge from moving forward with sentencing Trump on Friday in his criminal hush money case. It is rare, court analysts said, for a justice to have such a conversation directly with a sitting president or president-elect, especially one with an active stake in business pending before the court.

Collins: What we are learning is that President-Elect Trump did speak with Justice Alito in recent days. What makes all of this so unusual is that call came one day before Trump’s legal team filed that emergency appeal to the Supreme Court to try to delay his sentencing.. pic.twitter.com/eWlxVrQ9sd

BREAKING: Justice Alito takes call from Trump, right as Trump’s lawyers sought stay to stop Trump’s criminal sentencing in NYC.
Alito claims it was to help a former clerk get a job.
Doesn’t matter. Federal law requires Alito now be DISQUALIFIED from the Trump stay petition.
