The New York Times reports:
President Trump plans to nominate L. Brent Bozell III, a conservative media critic and fierce defender of Israel, to be the U.S. ambassador to South Africa, according to the Congressional website. Mr. Bozell had previously been nominated to lead the United States’ global media agency, but that nomination was withdrawn on Monday, the Congressional website had said.
Mr. Bozell, who must be confirmed by the Senate, would be stepping into the role at a time when the relationship between South Africa and the United States is at its worst in recent memory. It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Bozell had ties to South Africa. His son was convicted and sentenced in the attack on the Capitol, but was pardoned by Mr. Trump.

Bozell was to have been Kari Lake’s boss.
His son, Brent Bozell IV, was sentenced to four years for a series of violent acts during the attack on the Capitol.
The elder Bozell, who is the nephew of dead right winger William F. Buckley, has appeared here countless times for his false claims and attacks on LGBTQ rights issues.
Perhaps most notably, in 2011 he appeared on Fox News where he called then-President Obama “a skinny ghetto crackhead.”
One of the several groups founded by Bozell, the Parents Television Council, regularly condemns portrayals of LGBTQ people on television.
In 2001, Bozell apologized and paid World Wrestling Entertainment $3.5 million after claiming that the WWE’s shows had caused the deaths of children copying wrestling stunts.
In the 80s, Bozell joined a right wing PAC founded by Roger Stone and Terry Dolan, the closeted anti-gay homocon and Moral Majority co-founder who later died of AIDS – but not before Larry Kramer threw a glass of water in his face.
Of note, in 2016 Bozell condemned Trump as a “charlatan huckster,” adding, “God help this country if this man were president.”
In 1970, Bozell’s grandfather was convicted of beating a cop with a “five-foot wooden cross” during an attack on an abortion clinic.
