A legal and political showdown is brewing over the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a deported man whose immigration status has sparked sharp disagreement between the White House and a federal judge.
On Friday, the White House posted a message declaring Abrego Garcia is “NOT coming back,” even as a judge criticized the government’s evidence against him and ordered officials to facilitate his return to the U.S.
U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis sharply criticized the evidence used to justify Abrego Garcia’s deportation, calling it vague and unsupported. Xinis said the accusations were based on his clothing and a single unverified tip linking him to a gang in a city he has never lived in.
